Financing Your Bariatric Surgery in Quebec
Many patients opt for private bariatric surgery to avoid long public wait times.
Private bariatric surgery is offered at Clinique Michel Gagner with Dr. Michel Gagner and his team of surgeons
Private: Around 1 month after the first consultation, which can be scheduled within a few weeks
Public: Wait time varies and may be longer than 2 years, depending on the hospital. Seeing a specialist in the public requires a family doctor's referral, and some hospitals have additional paperwork requirements
After waiting for a few years, candidates may still be rejected if their BMI doesn’t meet public hospital criteria.
Public eligibility: BMI over 40 or over 35 with obesity-related health issues.
At Clinique Michel Gagner we follow the most recent guidelines: Candidates qualify with a BMI of 30 if they have obesity-related conditions, or BMI over 35.
