Dumping Syndrome
What happens with dumping syndrome?
Occurs when stomach contents empty too quickly into the intestines.
Signs and symptoms usually occur 10 to 90 minutes after a meal and can last up to 3 hours.

Cramps
Bloating
Nausea
Weakness
Cold sweats
Heart palpitations
Diarrhea
Dizziness
How to prevent dumping syndrome?
Avoid sugary/sweetened foods or foods marketed as "diet".
Avoid dairy products.
Avoiding spicy foods.
Avoiding greasy foods.
Avoid drinking while eating.
Take at least 30 minutes to eat.
Avoid extreme temperatures (too hot or too cold).
Limit caffeine.
How to prevent/minimize nausea and vomiting?
Drink slowly and in small quantities at a time.
Take at least 30 minutes to eat.
Chew your food well.
Take small portions at a time.
Stop eating as soon as you are full.
Take Tylenol instead of narcotics.
Go back to the previous stage of the diet if necessary.
Take anti-nausea medication if needed (please consult your pharmacist).

Drink slowly and in small quantities at a time.
Take at least 30 minutes to eat.
Chew your food well.
Take small portions at a time.
Do not drink through a straw.
Avoid drinking while eating.
