Signs and Symptoms to Watch for

This section is a series of signs and symptoms to watch for after the surgery.

Terms of communication

The most effective way to reach your nurse is to send her an email.

Please note that response times may take up to 2 business days (1 business day for patients operated < 1 week ago).

The nursing team is at your service for up to 1 month after surgery (with some exceptions). After this period, we invite you to address your questions to your family doctor or your surgeon during your next consultation.

Please note that the Clinique Michel Gagner does not operate 24 hours a day and therefore cannot replace emergency services. If you are concerned about your health situation outside of business hours, please go to the emergency room or call 811 (for patients living in Quebec).

When to go to the emergency room

Chills and persistent fever of >38.5 Co (101 Fo)

Continuous bleeding or discharge from your incisions

Progressive pain and swelling of the abdomen

Persistent vomiting

5

Persistent cough or difficulty breathing

Purulent discharge (pus) from one of your incisions

7

Heat, redness, swelling or discharge from one or more incision sites

Blood in the stool

9

Blood in vomit

10

Pain, swelling or redness of one or more lower limbs

Sensation of "Rice Krispies" at the incision sites

Chest pain

13

Signs of dehydration (dark brown urine, dry tongue/lips, persistent dizziness, weakness)
