Swallowable Gastric Balloon

Overview

The swallowable gastric balloon is an inflatable balloon that is placed into the stomach temporarily. By reducing the available space in the stomach, patients feel full after having eaten less food. In addition, the balloon results in delayed emptying of the stomach, allowing for longer periods between meals. Weight loss is achieved by restricting daily caloric intake because of patient fullness. This is a great option to complement a weight loss program or lifestyle changes to result in long-term weight loss. Many patients who are not good candidates for surgery may choose this option. The procedure is an outpatient procedure, with patients leaving the clinic the same day of the procedure.

Our Allurion balloon programme

No need for surgery, endoscopy, or anesthesia. The Allurion balloon is a swallowable capsule that contains a deflated balloon. With this non-invasive technology, Clinique Michel Gagner will be able to help patients kickstart and achieve their weight-loss goals, including patients that are at a high risk of undergoing general anesthesia or simply have a fear of endoscopy.

The patient should expect to lose approximately 10-15% of body weight loss in 16 weeks, or an average of 10 - 15 kg, with the help of the balloon. The balloon becomes the size of a grapefruit, which takes up space in the patient's stomach, giving a feeling of fullness and then deflates itself after four months. The balloon passes naturally through the digestive system.

It is an effective aid in losing weight with diet and physical activity: 15% total body weight loss with 1 balloon, 23% total body weight loss with a program of 2 balloons.

*Indications for Allurion Gastric Balloon
