Dr. Gagner performed the first SPIDER Mini-Gastric Bypass this week with the help of Dr. Jean-Marc Chevalier at the Centre Européen George Pompidou in Paris, France!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the SPIDER system, it’s a new type of laparoscopic instrument that allows multiple instruments to use a single entry point, or trocar. And it looks like this:

Dr. Gagner has been working with the company behind the SPIDER, TransEnterix, to develop this new instrument. The right and left instruments are actually flexible and allow the instruments to move, offering a very exciting new method of performing laparoscopic surgery.
