About Acid Reflux
This section is about acid reflux that may occur after the surgery
How can I prevent acid reflux?
Take the prescribed anti-reflux medication every morning, 30 minutes before
breakfast
Eat every 3 to 4 hours
Eat slowly
Avoid eating large portions at a time (stick to recommended portion size)
Avoid drinking while eating
Avoid drinking 15 minutes before and 30 minutes after eating
Avoid bending over after meals
Avoid lying down after meals
Wait 3 hours after the last meal/snack before going to bed
Make sure the last meal or snack of the day is high in protein
Avoid smoking
Foods to avoid
Spicy foods
Greasy foods
Acidic fruits
Tomatoes
Black coffee (avoid coffee if possible)
Alcohol
Chocolate
Soft drinks
Chewing gum
Anti-reflux drug
Anti-reflux medication is prescribed after the surgery. The duration of the
prescription is 2 months following the surgery
If you experience acid reflux after stopping the medication, contact our clinical
coordinator or your nurse so that we can renew your prescription (giving us the
name of your pharmacy, the phone number, and the fax number)
