Postoperative Medications

Painkillers

  • Name of the drug: Oxycodone

  • Dosage: 5 mg per tablet

  • Frequency of administration: 1 to 2 tablets every 4 hours as needed

  • Purpose: to relieve discomfort and pain

  • Persistent bleeding

  • Possible side effects: drowsiness, nausea, constipation, dizziness

Particularity

If you have pain, start with Tylenols first. If the pain persists despite this, take the painkillers.

Injection of anticoagulant

  • Name of the drug: Lovenox

  • Dosage: 40 mg subcutaneous

  • Frequency of administration: 1 to 2 injection(s) per day (depending on your BMI)

  • Duration: 7 to 28 days*

    *The duration may vary in patients with a history of phlebitis or who are
    anticoagulated

  • Purpose: to avoid the formation of blood clots (phlebitis, embolism)

  • The injection technique will be taught by the nurse at the hotel before your discharge

Particularity

Please contact your pharmacy prior to surgery to ensure that injections will be available at the time of discharge.

Gallstone dissolution agents

  • Name of the drug: Ursodiol

  • Dosage: 500 mg per tablet

  • Frequency of administration: 1 tablet per day, ideally with supper

  • Duration: 6 months postoperative
    To be started 1 week after surgery

  • Purpose: to avoid stones in the gallbladder

  • Cut the tablet into 4 pieces

Particularity

If you have trouble taking the tablet, you can ask your pharmacist for 250 mg tablets

Multivitamins and supplements

  • Name of supplements: multivitamins, calcium and vitamin D, vitamin B12 and iron

  • Dosage: depends on the product and the formula (ask your pharmacist or nutritionist)

  • Frequency of administration: refer to the document "Nutrition Protocol" given by the
    nutritionist

  • Duration: 1 year post-surgery

  • Start supplements as soon as you receive the prescription Restart supplements 1 week postoperatively

  • Purpose: to avoid deficiencies
